What God Sees in you

Have you ever felt that God was leading you toward something, but instead of seeing what you could do, you immediately saw everything you felt you couldn’t?

I’m not capable enough.

I don’t know enough.

I’m not the right person.

Someone else could do this much better.

Who am I to do this?

I was reminded of this when reading about Moses in Deuteronomy 31:1–8.

Moses was speaking to Israel one final time before they entered the Promised Land. Joshua would lead them forward, and Moses encouraged the people not to be afraid because God Himself would go before them and remain with them.

But this wasn’t the Moses we first meet in Exodus.

In Exodus 4:10–17, when God called Moses to lead His people out of Egypt, Moses focused on his own limitations. He told God that he was not a good speaker and asked Him to send someone else.

Moses looked at himself and saw a reason why he couldn’t do what God was asking.

But God reminded him:

Who made the human mouth?

God already knew Moses’ weaknesses. He knew his fears, his limitations, his past and everything Moses himself could see.

And still, God called him.

God didn’t suddenly make Moses into someone who had no weaknesses. Instead, God met Moses in his weakness. He even gave him Aaron to help him. But as Moses walked with God, something changed.

Years later, we see him standing before the people himself, speaking with authority, encouraging them and preparing them for what was ahead.

The journey changed Moses.

He didn’t become confident because he suddenly discovered that he could do everything on his own.

He learned to trust the God who had called him.

And I think there is something beautiful here for us.

Sometimes when God places something in front of us, we look at ourselves and immediately see our shortcomings.

But God sees the whole picture.

He knows the person He created you to be. He knows your gifts, your abilities and your heart. He knows where you have come from, where you are right now, and where He is leading you.

And sometimes He may lead you into something that feels bigger than you.

That doesn’t necessarily mean you are not capable.

It may simply mean that you were never meant to do it without Him.

We can bring our uncertainty to God.

We can tell Him:

“Lord, I’m scared.”

“I don’t know if I can do this.”

“I don’t feel qualified.”

“I don’t know what I’m doing.”

We don’t have to hide those feelings from Him.

But we also don’t have to let them have the final word.

Because our confidence doesn’t have to come from knowing that we can do everything.

Our confidence can come from knowing Who walks with us.

Moses didn’t know everything that would happen when God first called him. He didn’t know what the journey would look like or who he would become along the way.

He simply had to take the next step.

And perhaps that’s what God is asking of some of us too.

You don’t have to see the whole path. You just have to trust Him with the next step.

So when you find yourself thinking:

“But I can’t do this…” perhaps remind yourself:

“I may not be able to do this on my own, but God is with me.”

Give Him your uncertainty.

Give Him your fears.

Give Him your shortcomings.

And trust that the same God who called you will also walk with you, teach you, strengthen you and shape you along the way.

You don’t have to become the person you will be at the end of the journey before taking the first step.

God can shape you on the way there. 🤍

A little reflection

  • Where are you currently looking more at your own limitations than at God’s presence?

  • What uncertainty are you carrying that you could surrender to Him today?

  • And what might your next step look like if you truly believed that God is going with you?

A prayer

Lord,

You know me completely. You know my strengths, my weaknesses, my fears and every place where I feel inadequate.

Help me to stop looking only at what I lack and start looking at You.

When You lead me somewhere that feels bigger than me, remind me that I don’t have to walk there alone.

I give You my uncertainty, my fear and my doubts. Teach me to trust You with the next step, even when I cannot see the whole road.

Thank You that You will never leave me or abandon me.

Help me to become who You are shaping me to be, one step at a time.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen🕯️
