How to pick te right scent
A gentle guide to finding a fragrance for your home, your season, and your heart.
There is something special about scent.
A fragrance can bring back a memory, change the atmosphere of a room, or make an ordinary moment feel a little more meaningful. It can become part of your morning routine, a quiet evening at home, a moment of prayer, or simply a reminder to slow down and be present.
At The Living Light Co., we believe candles are more than something beautiful to burn. Each candle is created to bring warmth and light into your home while pointing your heart back to something greater.
So how do you choose the right scent?

1. Think about the atmosphere you want to create
Start by thinking about how you want your home to feel.
Are you looking for something soft and comforting after a long day? Perhaps you are drawn to warm vanilla, gentle florals, or creamy notes.
Want your space to feel fresh and uplifting? Look for tea, citrus, water, or other bright notes.
And sometimes you simply want something grounding. A fragrance that makes your home feel quiet, warm, and still.
“In His presence there is fullness of joy.” — Psalm 16:11
Let your candle become part of the atmosphere you create. Not only around you, but within you.
2. Consider the season and the season you are in
There is something beautiful about allowing fragrance to move with the seasons.
In spring, we often reach for fresh and floral scents. In summer, we might want something light and refreshing. Autumn naturally draws us towards warmth, spice, woods, and sweetness. And winter invites those deeper, comforting fragrances that make home feel especially cosy.
But your heart doesn’t always follow the calendar.
Maybe you need something grounding in the middle of summer. Maybe you are longing for something light during a difficult winter.
There are no strict rules when it comes to fragrance. Choose the scent that meets you where you are.
3. Think in stories, not just fragrance notes
When choosing a candle, it is easy to focus only on the fragrance notes.
Do I like vanilla? Do I like lavender? Do I prefer fresh or warm scents?
But you can also ask yourself something deeper:
— What kind of moment do I want to create?
— What feeling do I want to welcome into my home?
— What memory does this fragrance bring to mind?
— What truth do I want to be reminded of?
Our candles are created with these moments in mind. Each fragrance has its own story, inspired by Scripture and moments that point us back to Jesus.
Because sometimes lighting a candle can be a simple way of saying:
I am slowing down. I am here. I am making room for this moment.
4. Let Scripture become part of the experience
Many of our candles are paired with a Bible verse. Not simply as part of their design, but as a reminder of God’s presence.
Maybe you are in a season of waiting and need a quiet moment of stillness.
Maybe you are beginning something new and want to be reminded of God’s faithfulness.
Maybe you simply want your home to become a place where you can rest, pray, read, create, or gather with the people you love.
Let the fragrance become part of that moment.
The candle doesn’t create God’s presence. He is already there. But a small, intentional ritual can help us slow down enough to notice it.

The right scent is the one that makes you want to slow down, breathe a little deeper, and enjoy the moment you are in.
So light a candle. Make yourself comfortable. Open your Bible, pour yourself a cup of tea, gather around the table, or simply sit quietly for a while.
Let there be light, and let your home become a place where you can abide in it.
